  • The Media Theatre is seeking to fill its Head of Sound/Audio 1 Position primarily responsible for the live mixing of both large and small scale musicals. This is a full-time staff position which requires a candidate to be a resident of the community. This position is under an IATSE Local 8 contract.


    POSITION: A1/FOH Mixer

    DEPARTMENT: Production/Head of Sound

    PAY RATE: IATSE union hourly, $28.00/hr department head rate

    Pension & Health through IATSE Local 8


    Job Functions

    • Serve as the main sound board operator during rehearsals and performances

    • Mix live audio for performances, balancing levels, and ensuring clarity and consistency adjusting audio settings in real-time to accommodate changes in the performance environment

    • Work closely with the Sound Designer, Directors, and other production staff to implement and adjust sound designs.

    • Programming the sound board (M32) for rehearsals and performances, ensuring accurate execution of sound cues.

    • Creating mix scripts for each production

    • Testing and troubleshooting the sound system prior to each show.

    • Changer over/setup of sound equipment, and cue lights for each show assigned in the Rep.

    • Assisting in load-ins and strikes

    • The Media Theatre is an inter-departmental IATSE union labor house. General technician functions will be required outside of the department of sound. 

    • Reports to the Artistic Director


    Knowledge & Abilities:

    • Understanding of mixing and show control playback.

    • Set-up and usage of wireless microphones, Avioms, and video playback and display.

    • Familiarity with the equipment currently used within the field

    • Basic knowledge of electronics and trouble-shooting techniques.

    • Design work on smaller shows

    • Hours vary with the production calendar and show assignments. Work shifts include afternoon and evening hours, weekend hours, and overtime.

  • THE MEDIA THEATRE is seeking an experienced Scenic Designer for our upcoming 2025 production of GREASE. The Media Theatre is a LOA in reference to LORT. Stipend designer fee.  As a pre-condition of employment it is required to have the requisite clearances for criminal and child abuse clearances from the State Police, Pennsylvania Department of Public Welfare, and the FBI. 


    Expected duties include (but not limited to):

    •  Provide a design within budget and time constraints.

    •  Attend all Production Meetings either in person or via Zoom

    •  Collaborate with the Director & Production Staff on all pre-production concepts

    • Mandatory attendance to Designer Run

    • Report to the Production Staff the appropriate drafting materials to allow for execution of design

    • Work with the given materials and advise Production Team  on appropriate avenues of achieving additional resources

    • Collaborate with Director of each production in creating a cohesive design before technical    rehearsals begin

    • Ability to adapt to a varied schedule

    • Proficiency in software including but not limited to:

      • AutoCad, VectorWorks

    • Work with the given materials and advise Production Team and Technical Director on appropriate avenues of achieving additional resources.

    • Attend all scheduled technical rehearsals.

    • Collaborate with Director of each production in creating a cohesive design before rehearsals    begin.

    • Create a comprehensive schedule and responsibility delegation of required work (Pulling from stock, purchasing, building, etc.)

    • Ability to adapt to a varied schedule

    • Proficiency in software including but not limited to:

    Google Sheets, Microsoft Excel

    The Music Director is responsible for all the musical elements of a production, leading the actors through rehearsals and in performance. Works closely with the director and Sound Designer to fully-realize the work and remain faithful to the vision of the author and director. The Music Director acts as a liaison between seasonal and full time staff in regards to artistic programming. 

    DUTIES 

    • Teach the music in the shows to the actors 

    • Ensure that a professional musical quality is maintained and that there is consistency during performances.

    • Participate in Production Meetings before and during the rehearsal process

    • Orchestrate and prepare the music to the specifications provided

    QUALIFICATIONS

    • Effective communication skills, both oral and written.

    • Experience leading and managing groups of artistic and production collaborators.

    • Knowledge of office software, especially Google Docs, Google Drive, Google Sheets, Google Calendar, and Zoom.

    • Ability to interpret technological versions of music provided

    • Excellent musicianship

    • Leading, encouraging and enthusing the actors on stage

    • Diplomacy and tact when working with a range of people and personalities

    • Committed to upholding the artistic vision provided

    • Self-motivated, honest, thoughtful, and composed.

    • Ability to multitask and prioritize

    TIMELINE & COMPENSATION

    The deadline for submissions is Monday, January 13, 2025. Ideal candidates are available to begin the pre-production process in March, with an official start of rehearsals of April 14, 2025. The anticipated compensation is $700-$800/week, commensurate with experience.
