The objective of The Media Theatre’s Empowerment Program is to encourage an arts-rich education, serving the needs of the children in the Greater Philadelphia Region, especially those who are economically disadvantaged. Part of Foundation and Individual’s support for the Empowerment Program provides funded tickets and opportunities for identified schools to attend a performance of the Broadway or Children’s Series. Funding can be used to support the special group rate of $25 per student to allow students in Grade 8-12 to attend a 10 AM matinee performance of the Broadway Series’ Holiday Show. Additional funding would allow for students in Grade K-8 at $5 a ticket to attend a Children’s Series production, many of which are originally written with a modern student in mind. Funding would include a post-show workshop with cast members and theatre professionals. Funding may also be used as scholarship for students wishing to study acting, singing, and voice at our newly improved Education Center.
In the past year, more than 2,500 school students from underserved areas were able to come and see a production through a funded ticket thanks to our previous sponsors. The Empowerment Program serves the geographic area of Greater Philadelphia including Delaware County, Montgomery County, Chester County, Bucks County, Philadelphia County and Wilmington, DE. The program includes students from each of these regions, attending our Broadway Series and Children’s Series, and does not discriminate based upon economic background, ethnicity, or age.
Our staff at The Media Theatre wishes to partner and ask funding of those individuals and/or organizations/foundations in which we have shared values with regarding educational growth in the youth of our communities. Further, we feel that music theatre is a fundamental tool which can be used to enable that growth and development. Harvesting a safe and creative learning environment is our number one priority in both our performances and in our classes. Through which, we have been able to stretch the imagination and maturity in those that are involved.
